League Aim For December 12 Re-Start

The uhlsport Hellenic League announced yesterday [16.11.20] that they are working towards continuing the 2020-21 campaign on Saturday December 12 [2020].

Following the latest Covid lockdown, the club played their last fixture a fortnight ago [on Tuesday November 3], before the sport at our level was postponed yet again and yesterday’s official league correspondence is the first hope that the season will get back underway this side of Christmas.

In their announcement, the league stated:  “Following several emails, questions, contact from clubs, the uhlsport Hellenic League Committee have decided to issue this statement to assist clubs with re-start planning.

“Our aim is to re-start Fixtures from 12th December 2020, subject to regional variations based on latest Government data.

“We will of course adhere to Government & FA advice plus requirements, as we receive them.”

Although the date is still over three weeks away, the decision will at least give clubs a target to work towards in order that (weather permitting!) games can go ahead before the festive period.

With no fewer than eight of our league fixtures now needing re-arranging, should the date be confirmed our return to playing will currently see us travelling to Berkshire on December 12, with a trip to current second placed Binfield, while our Development side are away at AFC Aldermaston.

That fixture will then herald a massive nine game away stand, with no First XI home game currently scheduled until February 20 [2021] when we’re due to host Reading City here at Barrington Park.

Of course, with the winter weather, fixture changes and no doubt more Covid disruption thrown in, we will expect things to continue to change so we’ll have all the updates as they happen so keep an eye on our media outlets.
