FINAL | RWBT 2 Shrivenham 3

Shrivenham picked up their opening points of the season at the New Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground on Tuesday evening, in what turned out to be the sides first derby win of the season.

New signing Ollie Rejak who could have given the visitors an early lead after 8 minutes after a neat move from Shrivenham, but he saw his effort aimed straight at Declan Lehmann for an easy save before the home side saw a chance of their own go begging three minutes later when the ball was blasted over the bar.

Two minutes later however, and Bassett’s effort did pay off when a brilliant initial parry from Mike Alexander from a Brad Pagliaroli effort, fell to the advancing Danny Langford who calmly headed home from the rebound on 13 minutes.

Not to be outdone, a brilliant ball from Ryan Stanners put Rejak through on goal and he unselfishly set up Josh Morse in turn to catch out the sleeping home defence for what looked an easy equaliser with 24 minutes gone.

With everything to play for, Rhys Talmarsh perhaps blew his sides chances just 7 minutes from the interval, after he head-butted Jamie Prictor and saw a straight red and just two minutes later, the visitors took the lead when Stanners acted quickest to fired Shrivenham in to the lead from a corner.

After the break, captain Sam Ockwell netted Shrivvy’s third with 52 minutes on the clock, when he tried his luck from all of 25-yards out after the ball fell to his feet and with their huff and puff, the home side finally were handed a lifeline when Shrivenham gave another soft penalty away – their second game running, with  Callum McGhee-Parsons slotting the ball beyond Alexander with 20 minutes remaining.

Morse made way for Lewis Petrie (75 minutes) and Aaron Dainton came on for the final 10 (swapping with Rejak) but by the time Dave Bampton picked up a red for a second bookable offence, there was little the home side could do to secure their second comeback in two games (after their 3-3 draw with Holmer Green three days earlier) and by the time referee Tom Green blew his whistle, Shrivenham had moved six places up the standings to tenth place.
