Devizes Town 2 Shrivenham 2

Practice draw, but by no means a bore.

Shrivenham travelled to Nursteed Road on Saturday afternoon [July 20, 2019] and gave a side of mainly First XI players, a few trialists and one Development player another challenge as they build towards the start of the new season.

It took Gareth davies men 10-minutes to break the deadlock after a confident start when Tom Ballard capitalised on a defensive mix-up following a set piece, but although they had looked more than comfortable in the opening period, it was the hosts who were to step up a gear to make things far more difficult for their visitors.

With the gusting wind behind them, a long rang effort on 25-minutes whizzed past Mike Alexander, who had had very little to do up until then – before the home side deservedly took the lead for all their grit and determination, when a beautifully executed first time volley, lobbed the keeper to give the home side the lead, which they took in to the interval.

After the break was a different matter – as it was Shrivenham who managed the lion’s share of possession – and more than deserved to finish with a win, as Sam Ockwell was to prove after narrowly missing with an early effort.

Jamie Prictor had a thunderous strike tipped on to the bar midway through the second and with fifteen minutes to go the visitors were dominating play, but unable to find a way through the home sides defence up until 89-minutes when Josh Morse decided to dance through the defence and slotted the ball home in a fine individual effort.
