PREVIEW: Shrivenham vs Binfield

The New Year gets off with a bang tomorrow afternoon [Saturday January 5, 2019] as we welcome Binfield to Barrington Park in a Benchmark sponsored game, kick off 3pm.

With both clubs heading on to the pitch with five-game unbeaten runs under their belts, Hair Candie sponsored manager Gareth Davies will be keen for his side to come out trumps come the final whistle on Saturday evening.

“We still need to keep winning games of football until it becomes a habit,” he told Swindon Advertiser reporter Jonathan Leighfield following his sides victory over Abingdon United on December 12 [2018].

“We’re not going to get carried away - we know there are a lot of good teams in this division and it’s up to us to keep plugging away and trying to take points off people.

“Hopefully, we can be looking up the table instead of over our shoulders now.

“I know there’s a bit of a gap, but a couple of defeats and you can get sucked right back into it.

“If you can go on a bit of a run like we’re on at the moment – 13 points from 15 isn’t bad – then it’s all about consistency and we just need to try and carry that on now.”

Binfield arrive in Oxfordshire in a mid-table position of ninth, with 29 points from 16 games.  That puts them three places higher in the standings than Shrivenham who are twelfth with 27 points from 22 games.

Their current leading scorer is Ian Davies, who has a great record of 15 goals from 19 appearances with 18 goals from 24 appearances, while Carlo Santoro has the most appearances so far this season, with 24.

Jeffrey Brown and James Knight are registered as both having seen straight red this season, while Liam Gavin, Sean Moore and Charley Tuttle have all been dismissed having picked up second yellows during matches.

Our visitors are currently on a run of five straight wins, four of these coming in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League and have played a grand total of 27 fixtures up to now, scoring 62 goals (2.3 per game), while conceding 40 (1.4 per game)

On their current run of five victories, they’ve managed 15 goals.

Alan Overthrow will be running the match and he’ll be assisted by Nick Stanley and Shane Comb, while Benjamin Williamson has been named as the fourth official.

This is the first outing between the two sides this season, however we did host the club at Barrington Park last January in a Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup tie, best forgotten as the Moles ran out comfortable 6-1 winners.

Goals from Bradley Pagliaroli (3), Ian Davies (2) and Eddie Lee were more than enough for our visitors to ease in to the next round, while Jamie Prictor hit our solitary reply.

Walk up tickets are available at the gate on the day of the match and are priced at £5 for Adults and £3 for Concessions.
