Shrivenham 3 Lydney Town AFC 3

Shrivvy dig deep in six goal thriller.

Shrivenham gained a valuable point against eighth-placed Lydney at Barrington Park on Saturday afternoon ahead of next weekend’s home clash with fellow strugglers Longlevens.

Visitors Lydney struck early as they took the lead on just three minutes courtesy of a clinical finish from Lewis Thompson.

Dec Morley-Lyne doubled Lydney’s advantage on 28 minutes as he capitalised on some poor defending from the home side.

Crucially though Shrivenham hit back right on half-time when skipper Sam Ockwell kept his composure inside the box and fired home clinically.

Shrivvy’s lively start to the second-half reaped dividends on 58 minutes when Lewis Petrie fired home the equaliser.

The home side though missed two good chances to take the lead before Lydney edged back in front in bizarre fashion.

With Thompson racing in on goal, Macualey Dodson clipped him for what looked like a stonewall penalty. However, the referee waved play on causing a moment of confusion in the Shrivvy box as the ball trickled past goalkeeper Mike Alexander and into the net to give Lydney a bizarre lead.

Fortunately for Shrivenham they bounced back to level soon after when Luke Cordery’s header looped into the back of the Lydney net and our media partners over at Your Sport Swindon pick up the story >>>
